The iRODS integrated Rule-Oriented Data System enables the creation of policy-based data management systems that enforce preservation policies, automate the execution of administrative tasks, and periodically validate assessment criteria. The iRODS data grid characterizes policies as computer actionable rules, and composes procedures by chaining together micro-services that are executed at the remote storage location.
The rules control the execution of the micro-services, ensuring that your management policies are enforced. Examples of policies include retention, disposition, replication, distribution, time-dependent access controls, integrity validation, metadata extraction, data redaction, format transformation, and federation.
The iRODS workshop will:
- Introduce the concepts behind the integrated Rule Oriented Data System
- Help with installation of the iRODS software on your personal laptop (Windows, Solaris, Unix, or MacOS)
- Provide example rule sets
- Demonstrate how to modify the rule sets to address your management requirements
- Demonstrate use of a variety of clients for accessing the data grid (Web browser, WebDAV, FUSE, Unix shell commands, Fedora
- Present a set of computer actionable assessment criteria based on the ISO MOIMS-rac emerging standard
Participants are asked to bring a laptop that has wireless access to the workshop.
